For the second year in succession United visit the United States for a pre-season tour. Last summer and on several occasions since Louis van Gaal has expressed his concern about the disruption to the pre-season preparations resulting from last season’s tour schedule and the quantity of travelling required whilst away. As a consequence this year at his request the amount of travelling has been greatly reduced with United based at just two training camps and playing only four games over a period of thirteen games.

Van Gaal will be looking to use the time in those two camps to do plenty of preparation works to ensure that this season the side “hits the ground running” for the new campaign. He has selected a squad of 26 to go on the tour comprising a mixture of established players, newcomers to the club and aspiring youngsters.

Van Gaal has outlined his intention to give all players some match time so the tour will be a first chance for United fans to see Depay, Darmian, Schweinsteiger and Sneiderlin in action.
